Modest Proposal

Some of the issues that Swift addresses throughout his paper is the fact that there are many people who are poor and have a weak work ethic. The country is basically in shambles when he describes the system there. He is talking about some of the malnourished children, where he can really go off about his subject and start to use his satire. By saying he will eat the children, it is really ironic because the children themselves don’t eat. By the pure absurdness that he reiterates throughout the paper, it really draws the attention of the reader. It gets to a point where the reader doesn’t know if he is serious or if he is joking around. The reader can read the first couple paragraphs and laugh about it, but by the fourth or fifth paragraph the author’s sanity really starts to come into question. His strategy throughout the paper was very smart and concise. He really targeted the areas that need extreme attention by making absurd proposals from the beginning to end.

         The toll of anguished mother about the issue of abortion has become alarming and needs to be dealt with now. So, I suggest that we completely shut down the birthing rights from mothers and change it to monkeys. With the father’s genes, the female monkey will produce children that are a little more hairy than our current children and they will have tails. It is a lot better than having to fight about what is right for the child and what is wrong. This will alleviate any problems with rape and unwanted pregnancy. The male and female relationship will just be a mutual relationship with no sexual interaction involved at all.  I know many of you will become alarmed if there are more monkeys around town with people, but it will be okay because we will set up a breeding ground for the male-monkey couples. Economically, the country will become more stable because people will not have to worry about the sale of condoms and pregnancy tests. There will be more money spent on education of children and parents will be able to relax. The major benefit coming from this type of sexual pairing will be the fact that women will be able to stay at home and cater to the man. He will go off to work and the mother will remain with her duties until the baby is fully arrived. The government will not have to pay for maternity leave and will make more money with the extra workers available.
